Last weekend I had the chance to attend an AMAZING event – MSP FitFest! Cannot believe this event was the first of it’s kind in Minnesota. Hoping many more events like this are to come. Perfect fit for our fit city
This day is filled with group fitness classes, motivating and informative seminars, a health and fitness expo, and much more!
Fit Fest took place at the Recreation and Wellness Center at the University of Minnesota. I gotta say – I was BLOWN away by this place. State of the art facilities, new equipment…yah I was in heaven. Kept thinking how in-shape I’d be if this was what I had access to in college! Well…it sure would’ve been more motivating!
The major keynote speaker and class instructor of this event was Chris Freytag of Get Healthy U. She is a major reason why I attended this event as she inspires me to be in the social fitness community. She is a rockstar motivator and I was super pumped to meet her and take her classes. So I took all of them ha.
Her morning class started with the sweatiest session of SPIN I’ve ever experienced. Chris even agreed to this. The “steam room” actually helped open up my breathing as I was recovery from bronchitis at the time. Yeah – super trooper here. Chris is an unbelievable motivator and made the class a ton of fun.
The next class was HIIT, which my good friend joined me for. It was Tabata-style with various challenging moves. And it was tough. I took a lot away from this class that I can bring to my own group fitness classes. Winning.
The last class we took was a much needed Vinyasa Yoga class. Felt amazing to stretch and open-up after two intense classes. It was held in this beautiful studio surrounded by wall-to-ceiling windows:
Included in the measly $20 event ticket was a healthy lunch to keep ya goin. My friend and I joined a few of my other friends for this – another group fitness instructor who introduced me to The Shed Fitness Studio (which I will be teaching at soon!) and a friend from my apartment, Heather of Mind Over Mayo (check out her awesome blog!).
Sticking with my theme of following Chris Freytag around for the day, I decided to attend her seminar, “If You Don’t Have Health, What Do You Have?” as well. And so happy I did. She has 24 years of experience in the fitness industry and could talk for hours on so many important and interesting topics. She had to narrow it down to 45 minutes and focused on high-level tips about nutrition, fitness, social, and a positive mindset.
The expo was filled with various vendors but my favorite part was being able to get a chiropractic adjustment and mini chair-massage from Northwestern Health Sciences University. This was the perfect duo after a fitness-packed day. MUCH DESERVED!
That eve I treated myself to some wine on my patio. Was such a beautiful night and I felt very accomplished. Happy place

I cannot wait for next year’s event and seriously hope more like this are brought to the Twin Cities area. Wake up Minneapolis!
