Super excited and finally ready to work on my technique – especially before moving to Colorado.
I found a contact at the YWCA who offered to give me private lessons before joining a Masters team. So grateful for the help before making a dink outta myself!
My instructor took one look at my form and said, “Hmm…ok. Not bad. But let’s start from the beginning and deconstruct your stroke”. YIKES!
We started out by simply observing my swim technique, Quickly realized we need to take a few steps back! I think it’s a brilliant idea to deconstruct my stroke from the beginning. I have never taken lessons so I basically taught myself how to swim and I KNOW I am not performing as efficiently as I can.
I started out by using flippers so I would be forced to only mostly use my arms. I first started by only breathing on the right and arms were outstretched with hand in a fist (left arm forward, right arms back). This helped make sure I was holding my head in neck in the right position when I breathe. We then moved to the left. SO awkward as I’ve only ever breathed on my right. I know that this is the perfect opportunity to go back and work on the left though.
