Week 6: Running
Yep – I love running! I don’t think it is for everyone as it can be pretty high-impact on the body but MAN does it feel gooood. Both physically and mentally.
One of my fav new things. Didn’t do a lot of this in Minnesota or Colorado ha. It’s crazy how much harder it is. The sand gives more resistance and you build ankle strength at the same time. Running barefoot on sand forces you to grip with your toes, which helps strengthen muscles in your feet and calves. If it’s a hot day I love to take quick dips into the water to cool off! And you can pretty much always catch me smiling – I mean you’re at the beach!
Wearing this tank on the run today made me miss pacing! It’s so fun to help people push themselves to hit a certain goal. Watching them cross that finish line with a PR is priceless! Hoping to get more races going on Maui and would love to get involved with pacing again!
If you are on Maui, feel free to join our running group Sundays at 7:30am. You decide your distance and pace as we are all on different pages. A perfect way to stay accountable and also meet like-minded people! Location always changes so feel free to email me at [email protected] for more details. Would love to meet you and get our run-on!
First Maui Race
This past Saturday marked my first race on Maui – Pacific Whale Foundation’s Run for the Whales. I was going to volunteer for the event but after connecting with the Race Director she helped get me in last minute! And I was so thankful!
There were various distance options from a keiki (kid) run up to a half marathon. While I could probably get by with a half marathon I knew I wouldn’t PR so I opted for the 10k! Happy I chose that distance as I felt really good.
So good that my 6:52 pace even placed me first in my age group and top 3 overall female! I’ve never placed before so didn’t even really know what I was doing ha!
My girl Malia won the half marathon with a killer time of 1:24:10 (course was a bit long at 13.4 mi) – yah she’s a speedy one!
Race swag was pretty legit and top 3 were awarded a free whale watching tour for two to use within a year. I better get going on that though as it isn’t whale season for much longer!
Also randomly had the opportunity to meet a fellow Coeur Sports teammate who was in town from Vancouver. We even wore the exact same shorts and have the same Garmin 920 watch. Great minds indeed!!
Not bad for me first race on Maui! I already have the itch to do more
